Nodira’s ghazals
The ghazal “Doda keldim” has seven couplets and is in the metre ramali musammani mahzuf; its radif is the Turkic “eshit” and its eight rhyme words are Persian-Tajik with an Uzbek possessive suffix. The lover addresses the beloved with five forms of address (such as “sarvi ozod”, “parizod”), but the word “yor” is never used. Such an address can be understood as directed at once to Khan Umarxon and to the Creator. For the image of a tall figure the poet uses trees such as cypress and shamshad; there is tazod too: shah and benavo, ruined and flourishing, many days and one hour. The ghazal “Vasl uyin obod qildim” has nine couplets and the radif “oqibat”: it describes how the house of union the lover built is ruined by the flood of parting, how the beloved’s promise proves false, and how tears become pearls. Talmeh: there is an allusion to the stories of Shayx San‘on and the prophet Sulaymon. In the maqta‘ the new spring turns to autumn. The ghazal “Kel, dahrni imtihon etib ket” has nine couplets, is in the metre hazaji musaddasi axrabi maqbuzi mahzuf and has the radif “etib ket”. It begins with the address “Kel” and ends with an address to the poet herself, that is, the author’s conversation with herself. The ghazal expresses love of life: the world tests a person, so one must explore it, keep the secret of love hidden and scatter what one has seen like pearls. For independent reading the textbook gives three more ghazals: “Qilmag‘il zinhor izhor ehtiyoj”, the ghazals beginning “Fig‘onkim...” and “Bo‘ldi ul fursatki...”.
Put the three ghazals in a table: number of couplets, radif, metre, main idea, devices used. After the table write a four-sentence analysis of one ghazal in your own words.
