Dividing by 6

Textbook: Part 3, lesson 106, pp. 74–75
GoalDivide by 6; find the 6 division table from the times table.
New words
dividing by 6 · 6 ga bo‘lishhexagon · oltiburchaksharing equally · baravardan bo‘lishapprentice · shogird
Explanation

42 : 6 = 7, because 7 × 6 = 42. The table for dividing by 6: 6 : 6 = 1, 12 : 6 = 2, 18 : 6 = 3, ... 60 : 6 = 10. To divide we use the times table: “What do we multiply 6 by to get 42?” The side of a regular hexagon = perimeter : 6.

Worked examples
6 craftsmen assembling 42 devices equally do 42 : 6 = 7 each.
If a 48 cm wire is bent into a regular hexagon, each side is 48 : 6 = 8 cm.
Class activity

“Find it in the table”: children cover the 6 times table and answer questions like “48 : 6 = ?” by reading the table backwards from memory.

Practice
