Dividing by 5

Textbook: Part 3, lesson 102, pp. 64–65
GoalDivide by 5; link division by 5 to the times table and to money.
New words
dividing by 5 · 5 ga bo‘lishbanknote · kupyurpack · qadoqchange · qaytim
Explanation

30 : 5 = 6, because 6 × 5 = 30. To pay 30 thousand so‘m with 5-thousand notes we need 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 30, that is 6 notes. The table for dividing by 5: 5 : 5 = 1, 10 : 5 = 2, 15 : 5 = 3, ... 50 : 5 = 10. Change = money given − price of the purchase.

Worked examples
45 : 5 = 9, because 9 × 5 = 45.
7 notebooks at 3 thousand each cost 3 × 7 = 21 thousand. Paying 50 thousand gives 50 − 21 = 29 thousand change.
Class activity

“Make change”: children count play money (5-thousand notes): “How many for 30 thousand?”, “How many for 45 thousand?” – and write the answer as a division.
