Parts of a multiplication

Explanation
In 2 × 4 = 8 the numbers 2 and 4 are factors and 8 is the product. The expression 2 × 4 is also called a product. “6 taken 5 times” means 6 × 5, that is 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 30.
Worked examples
3 × 4 = 12: 3 and 4 are factors, 12 is the product.
7 taken 4 times: 7 × 4 = 7 + 7 + 7 + 7 = 28.
Class activity
“Find the part”: the teacher writes an equality (3 × 4 = 12). Children hold up a “factor” card or a “product” card as asked.
