Making a flowchart of a linear algorithm
Textbook: pp. 62–65
GoalBreak a simple job into exact actions and make a flowchart for a linear algorithm.
New words
action · harakatcorrectly made · to‘g‘ri tuzilganexact · aniqwall · devor
Explanation
To make a flowchart we split a job into separate actions. Each action must be exact and clear. A correctly made algorithm always gives the result once all actions are done. Commands like “take whatever you need” are not an algorithm, because they are not exact.
Worked examples
“Making tea”: (Start) → [boil water] → [put tea in the pot] → [pour hot water] → [add sugar] → [stir] → (End).
A robot reaches a battery between two walls: ↑ → → ↓ — 4 actions, 5 arrows, 2 ovals.
Class activity
“Soup” flowchart: groups write 5 actions for making soup on cards, put them in order, copy them onto oval and rectangle papers and join them with arrows.
Practice
1
How many rectangles does the “Making tea” flowchart above have?
5
2
How many arrows does the same flowchart have?
6
3
Can “Take whatever you need!” be an algorithm? Why?
No, the action is not exact
