Geosystems and their hierarchy
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Draw the levels of geosystems (from the geographic envelope to the facies) as a diagram in your notebook.
Geographic envelope – land – continent – country – zone – province – district – region – landscape – mestnost – urochishche – facies.
2
Give one example each of a facies, urochishche and landscape from your area.
For example: grass beside a ditch (facies), a canal valley (urochishche), the whole irrigated plain of an oasis (landscape). It depends on the place.
3
Why is a landscape an “open geosystem”? Write 3 sentences.
Because it exchanges water, air masses, rock material and energy with neighbouring landscapes, so its boundary is not a barrier.
4
Order four geosystem levels in a river valley from small to large and name each.
Facies (a uniform floodplain patch), urochishche (floodplain), mestnost (lower terraces), landscape (valley).
5
Write in 3–4 sentences what a geosystem needs to recover when human impact stops.
The rock and relief must be unchanged, sources of seeds and animals must be nearby, and enough time and moisture are needed; plants recover first, then microclimate and soil.
