The law of altitudinal zonation
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Make a table of Uzbekistan's mountain belts: name, approximate height, typical vegetation, economic use.
Desert (up to about 500 m, desert grasses; livestock/irrigated farming), adir (about 500–1200 m, ephemerals; rain-fed farming, spring pasture), mountain (about 1200–2800 m, juniper, walnut, grasses; orchards, tourism), pasture (above 2800 m, alpine grasses; summer pasture).
2
The temperature at the foot of a mountain is 26 °C. What is it 2000 m higher (it falls 6 °C per 1000 m)? (Number only.)

3
Why does vegetation differ on south and north slopes at the same height? Write 3–4 sentences.
The south slope receives more solar heat and the soil dries quickly; the north slope is cooler and moister, so forest and shrubs grow more.
4
Predict 3 changes you might observe as height increases during a mountain trip (with adults).
The air cools; plant types and height change (from trees to meadows); wind strengthens and snow or ice appear higher up.
