A New Year tree

GoalMake a New Year tree by folding coloured paper like an accordion.

Explanation
An accordion fold means folding the paper forward, then back, again and again. Gluing three accordions of different lengths on top of each other makes a tree: the long one at the bottom, the short one on top. Before folding, we line up the paper edges.
Worked examples
Three green accordions + a yellow star + coloured dots as baubles.
Class activity
Steps: 1) Take 3 green strips: long, medium, short. 2) Fold each one like an accordion. 3) Glue the long one at the bottom of the card and the short one at the top. 4) Add a star on top and dots on the branches. Safety: when cutting the star, turn the paper and keep the scissors still.
