How nature gets ready for winter
Textbook Part 1, pp. 38–40
GoalKnow how plants, animals and people get ready for winter.
New words
hibernation · qishki uyquto store up · g‘amlamoqfur · junwarm clothes · issiq kiyim
Explanation
Before winter, trees drop their leaves and “rest”. Squirrels store nuts. Bears and hedgehogs go into a winter sleep (hibernation). Many animals grow thicker fur. Some birds fly to warm countries. People get warm clothes ready and make jam and pickles.
Worked examples
A hedgehog makes a nest under dry leaves and sleeps until spring.
Grandma made apple and quince jam for the winter.
Class activity
Experiment: pour warm water into two cups, wrap one in a thick scarf and leave the other open. After 20 minutes, check with a finger: which is warmer? Thick fur keeps animals warm in the same way.
