Footprints, privacy and the passive

Every time you post a photo, search for something or like a video, you leave a small trace online. All these traces together are your digital footprint. Your privacy is your right to keep some information to yourself. A secure account is safe from other people, and a password is a secret code that opens it. A good password is long and hard to guess, and you never share it, except with a parent or a guardian. Data means facts and information stored by a computer, and it is a mass noun, so we say data is saved. A setting is a choice you can change in an app, for example who can see your photos. Read page 28 of your book (the text about keeping privacy in the digital age) and look at the words in bold. To guess a new word, read the words around it. Use a Word Tip too: a synonym has nearly the same meaning (secure, safe) and an antonym has the opposite meaning (private, public).
