A story about learning on a tablet
A story has a beginning, a middle and an end. In the beginning we meet the child and the problem. In the middle something happens. In the end we see how it finishes. Our story is about Zeina and a school project on Siwa Oasis. Zeina uses a tablet to learn, but she does it safely: she asks her dad first, she goes online with him and she writes the facts in her own words. Read the story twice. Then answer the questions.
| Part of the story | In our story |
|---|---|
| Beginning | Zeina gets a school project. |
| Middle | She searches for Siwa with her dad. |
| End | She tells her class about Siwa. |
Zeina is eight years old and she lives in Cairo. Her teacher gives the class a project: choose a place in Egypt and tell the class about it. Zeina chooses Siwa Oasis because her grandpa often talks about it. After school she sits with her dad and the family tablet. ‘Dad, may I go online?’ she asks. Dad says yes and sits next to her. Zeina types the keyword Siwa in the search engine. She sees a list of websites and chooses one with her dad. She learns that Siwa is a green place with palm trees and salt lakes in the Western Desert. She writes three facts in her notebook in her own words. Then Dad closes the tablet because it is time for dinner. On Sunday Zeina tells her class about Siwa and her friends clap.
Retell and draw. The child folds a paper into three parts and draws the beginning, the middle and the end of the story, then says one sentence under each picture. The grown-up asks: What would you like to learn about? and the child picks a place or an animal and its keyword.
