Big numbers to 1,000
We count in hundreds: 100 is one hundred, 200 is two hundred, and so on up to 900, nine hundred. Ten hundreds make 1,000, one thousand. A number with three digits has hundreds, tens and ones. The number 346 has 3 hundreds, 4 tens and 6 ones. We say it: three hundred forty-six. The number 508 is five hundred eight. The number 999 is nine hundred ninety-nine. One more makes 1,000.

Nadia’s school has 412 children. On sports day 250 children ran a race and 162 children played games. The school bought 300 new books and 100 new pencils for the next year. Nadia read the numbers: four hundred twelve, two hundred fifty, one hundred sixty-two.

Number cards. The child writes the numbers 100, 200 … 900 and 1,000 on ten cards. The grown-up says a number (four hundred) and the child holds up the card. Then the grown-up says a number between the cards (350) and the child says which two cards it is between.
