Explanation
Sometimes a word has the same letter two times. We hear the sound only one time. gg says /g/: egg, foggy, bigger, jogging. nn says /n/: dinner, sunny, funny, runner. tt says /t/: butter, kitten, button, letter. Say each word slowly. Then clap the two parts of the long words: din-ner, kit-ten, sun-ny.

Class activity
Double-letter hunt. The child looks for words with gg, nn and tt in a story book or on food packets. The child copies three words for each pair on paper and draws a ring round the double letters.
