The textbook has the tale “Qushlar qanday inlarda yashaydi?” (What nests do birds live in?), where a kingfisher asks other birds about nests before choosing its own. We do not retell it; we read our own informational text. Birds build different nests: the swallow makes a nest of mud and straw, the stork builds a large nest in a high place, the woodpecker makes its nest in a tree hollow, the sparrow finds a place in a roof or wall crack. Some birds, such as the cuckoo, do not build nests at all. We do not touch nests or take eggs, because the bird may abandon them.

“Homes of birds”. In spring swallows make a tiny nest of mud and straw on the ceiling of a porch. Storks build a large nest of branches on a tall pole or treetop. The woodpecker pecks into a tree trunk with its beak to form a hollow. Sparrows settle in a wall crack or under a roof. The cuckoo, however, leaves its egg in another bird’s nest. We watch nests from a distance and do not touch them.
Table: swallow – mud nest; stork – large nest; woodpecker – hollow; sparrow – crack; cuckoo – builds no nest.
