Yesterday’s story: review

Russian A1 · Unit 15
GoalTell a short story about yesterday in the past tense.
New words
уже́ (uzhé) · alreadyнаконе́ц (nakonéts) · at last, finallyвот (vot) · here is, here areвсё (vsyo) · everything, allтогда́ (togdá) · then, at that time
Explanation

Put everything together: a time word, who, the verb in the past, and the place. Check each verb: -л for a man, -ла for a woman, -ли for many people. Use снача́ла, пото́м and наконе́ц to tell a story in order. Уже́ means “already” and всё means “everything”. Вот points at something: Вот он! (“Here he is!”)

StepSentence
Снача́лаНи́на рабо́тала.
Пото́мОна́ была́ в магази́не.
Наконе́цОна́ чита́ла до́ма.
Worked examples

Вчера́ я был в шко́ле. Снача́ла я чита́л, пото́м я игра́л. Наконе́ц я был до́ма.

Ди́ма tells about yesterday.
Ма́ма

Ди́ма, ты уже́ обе́дал?

Ди́ма

Да, ма́ма. Снача́ла я игра́л, пото́м обе́дал.

Ма́ма

Хорошо́!

Ма́ма asks Ди́ма about lunch. Обе́дать means “to have lunch”.
Three useful words. Listen.
Class activity

Write a short story about yesterday, five or six sentences, with снача́ла, пото́м and наконе́ц. Read it to a friend. Then underline every past verb and check if it ends in -л, -ла or -ли.
