Explanation

Food words are everyday nouns, and you already know молоко́ and я́блоко. Хлеб, сыр, суп, рис and сала́т are masculine. Ры́ба is feminine. Мя́со and яйцо́ are neuter. Ask Что э́то? and answer Э́то суп. Join foods with и: хлеб и сыр. Add colours and adjectives you know: бе́лый хлеб (white bread), чёрный хлеб (rye bread), зелёный сала́т. Ы in ры́ба and сыр is the sound that has no English letter: say it with your tongue pulled back.
