Explanation

For мы, вы and они́ add -ли: мы чита́ли, они́ рабо́тали. One form is used for all these people. The verb “to be” has a past tense with the same endings: был (he), была́ (she), бы́ло (it), бы́ли (we, you, they). In the present Russians say Он до́ма, with no “is”. In the past you need the verb: Он был до́ма. Be careful with the stress: была́ ends in a stressed а, but бы́ло and бы́ли are stressed on ы.
