Explanation

In a dictionary a Russian verb ends in -ть, for example чита́ть (to read). To say what you do, take off -ть and add an ending. For я the ending is -ю: я чита́ю. For ты the ending is -ешь: ты чита́ешь. Russian has one present tense: чита́ю means both “I read” and “I am reading”. After ш the letter ь is only spelling, so чита́ешь ends in a plain “sh”. Рабо́тать, де́лать and знать work in the same way.
