I have, you have
Egyptian Arabic A1 · Unit 9
GoalSay what you have and what others have with عَنْد and an ending.
New words
عَنْدِي (ʿandi) · I haveعَنْدَك (ʿandak) · you have (to a man)عَنْدِك (ʿandik) · you have (to a woman)عَنْدُه (ʿandu) · he hasعَنْدَهَا (ʿandaha) · she hasعَنْدِنَا (ʿandina) · we have
Explanation
Egyptian has no verb «to have». It uses the little word عَنْد (ʿand), «at», with an ending. عَنْد + ـِي gives عَنْدِي, «at me», so «I have». The endings are the ones you know from the family unit. Say عَنْدَك to a man and عَنْدِك to a woman. Then add the thing: عَنْدِي كِتَاب means «I have a book». There is no word for «a».
