Explanation

Now you can read whole phrases: go word by word from right to left. In this course the last letter of every word is read with no vowel, even inside a phrase, and no sukun is written on it: ุฃูŽู†ูŽุง ู…ูู† ู…ูุตู’ุฑ is สพanฤ min miแนฃr. The little word ุงู„ู’ (al) means โ€œtheโ€ and is written joined to the next word. After a word that ends in a consonant you say al: ูƒูŽูŠู’ู ุงู„ู’ุญูŽุงู„ is kayf al-แธฅฤl; after a word that ends in a vowel the a is dropped: ู…ูŽุนูŽ ุงู„ุณูŽู‘ู„ูŽุงู…ูŽุฉ is maสฟa s-salฤma. Before some letters, such as ุณ, the ู„ of al is not heard; the next letter is doubled instead, and a shadda shows it: ุงู„ุณูŽู‘ู„ูŽุงู… is as-salฤm. A question ends with the mark ุŸ. Read slowly first, then faster, and press Listen to check.

ุญal is clear: al-แธฅฤlุงู„ู’ุญูŽุงู„
ุณthe l disappears and s is doubled: as-salฤmุงู„ุณูŽู‘ู„ูŽุงู…

Role play. With a friend, or in front of a mirror, act out the talk between Layla and Karim. Then swap the names for others: ุณูŽู„ู’ู…ูŽู‰ุŒ ุนูู…ูŽุฑุŒ ู†ููˆุฑุŒ ูŠููˆุณูู. Change the greeting to suit the time of day. Write your own two-line talk on paper with all the vowels, and read it aloud.
