Explanation

You know بَيْت (house) and غُرْفَة (room). A flat is a شُقَّة (shuqqa). The kitchen is مَطْبَخ and the bathroom is حَمَّام: both are masculine. The garden is حَدِيقَة, and it is feminine because of the ة. For “bedroom” and “living room” two words stand together: غُرْفَة النَّوْم is “room of the sleep”, and غُرْفَة الْجُلُوس is “room of the sitting”. The first word has no الْ, and its ة is read at: ghurfat. To say “my”, add the long vowel ي (ī) at the end: بَيْتِي is “my house”. After ة, it becomes ت: شُقَّة, شُقَّتِي (shuqqatī).

A walk through the house. Go through your home room by room and say aloud the name of each room in Arabic: مَطْبَخ، حَمَّام، غُرْفَة النَّوْم، غُرْفَة الْجُلُوس. Draw a simple plan of your home and write the Arabic name in each room. Write three sentences with بَيْتِي, for example بَيْتِي جَمِيل.
