Foods
Food is طَعَام (ṭaʿām). You already know خُبْز (bread), بَيْض (eggs), دَجَاج (chicken) and سَمَك (fish). New words are أَرُزّ (rice, with a doubled z), لَحْم (meat), جُبْن (cheese) and سَلَطَة (salad). Only سَلَطَة is feminine, because it ends in ة. Use the pointing words you know: هَذَا أَرُزّ is “this is rice”, but هَذِهِ سَلَطَة is “this is a salad”. You can add a colour or an adjective: الْجُبْن أَبْيَض, الْخُبْز سَاخِن.
| Food | Arabic | Say |
|---|---|---|
Food hunt. Go to your kitchen and find six foods. For each one say the Arabic word with the pointing word, for example هَذَا لَحْم or هَذِهِ سَلَطَة. Write a shopping list of five foods in Arabic with all vowels. Then say one sentence with a colour, for example الْجُبْن أَبْيَض.
