Drawing programs and their toolbox
Pictures and drawings make a presentation clearer. A drawing program is an easy way to draw your own pictures or change a photo you took. At the top of its window there are two helpers. The menu bar holds choices for opening and saving files and for changing colours and pictures. The toolbox is a row of small icons, like a pencil case on the screen. It holds a pencil, a brush, a spray, a paint pot to fill with colour, an oval, a rectangle, a straight line, a curved line, a select tool, a text tool, a zoom and an eraser. We describe them in words here, and you can draw this toolbox on paper.
| Tool | What it does | Like in real life |
|---|---|---|
| Pencil | thin lines | a pencil on paper |
| Brush | wider, softer strokes | a paintbrush |
| Spray | soft dots of colour | a spray can |

| Oval and rectangle | ready-made shapes | a shape stencil |

A paper toolbox. Draw a long strip on paper and put eight small icons in it: pencil, brush, spray, paint pot, oval, rectangle, line, text. Under each icon write its job in a few words. Then draw a felucca on the Nile using the ideas of these tools: lines, shapes and fill.
