Many ways to share what we find

ICT P4 Term 1, Theme 1: pp. 38–41
GoalName different ways to share findings and say which one fits an audience.
New words
findings · what we have found out from our dataaudience · the people who will read, watch or listenreport · to tell others clearly what you found out
Explanation

After collecting and analysing data, researchers tell other people what they found. There are many ways to report. A published article or a blog tells the story in writing. An interview lets a person answer questions. A TV programme shows pictures and voices. Other ways are digital messages: an email, a text message, or a video chat. Many websites for sharing are meant for older users, so a child of your age does not open an account alone and always asks a teacher or a family member first. The best way depends on the audience. A long article suits people who want details. A short message suits a quick answer.

Way to reportGood for
Published article or bloga full story with pictures
Interviewhearing a person’s own words
TV programmeshowing and telling together
Emaila short report with a graph attached
Text message or video chata quick update to someone
Worked examples
for the head teacherfor little ones: a talk
Mariam’s class found out that many children like football. For the head teacher, they write a short email. For younger children, they act it out in a short talk.
farmerinterview
Karim wants to hear a farmer explain how dates are harvested. He chooses an interview, because the farmer’s own words are the best source.
textaunt
Jana wants to tell her aunt in Alexandria a quick piece of news. A text message with an adult’s help is enough. She would not write a long article for that.
Class activity

Report roulette. Write five ways to report on separate papers. Write five audiences on other papers: the head teacher, a friend, a grandparent, younger children, a newspaper reader. Pick one of each at random and discuss with a partner whether they fit. If not, which way would you choose, and why?
