Kind posts and permission
ICT P4 Term 1, Theme 2: pp. 54–57
GoalCheck that a post is kind, and ask permission before sharing a photo of someone.
New words
post · something you share online for others to seetag · to name a person in a photo or post so that others can find thempermission · saying yes before something is done
Explanation
What we say online can be seen by many people, and it is hard to take back. So before any post, ask yourself two questions. Is it kind? Might it hurt someone? If you are not sure, do not post it. Photos need extra care. A photo of someone belongs to them as well as to you. Ask permission before you take it, and ask again before you share it or tag the person. “Tagging” someone links their name to the post, and anyone who can see the post can find them. At your age, posting is done with a teacher or a family member, never alone. Asking permission shows respect and keeps friendships strong.
Is it kind?→Could it hurt anyone?→Did I ask permission?→Ask a grown-up, then share
Worked examples
After sports day, Seif has a funny photo of his friend Omar falling over. Omar might feel embarrassed. Seif asks Omar, “May I share this?” Omar says no, so Seif keeps the photo to himself.
Salma wants to write about her class trip. She writes: “We had a lovely day at the park.” She asks herself: Is it kind? Yes. Could it hurt someone? No. She shows it to her teacher before it is shared.
A kind post says, “Well done, team!” An unkind post makes fun of someone’s mistake. If the words would hurt you to read, do not write them.
Class activity
Kind or unkind? Write six short pretend posts on cards, three kind and three unkind, using invented names. Sort them into two piles. For each unkind card, rewrite it as a kind one. Then practise asking for permission: “May I take your photo? May I show it to our teacher?”
