The “My Computer” (This PC) system folder
Textbook: pp. 79–83
GoalKnows the parts of the “This PC” (My Computer) window and uses it to copy, move, delete and rename files and folders.
New words
system folder: a special window that shows the computer’s drives and main places · sistema katalogiaddress bar: the line that shows the current location and lets you move to another · adres satricopy: making a duplicate; the original stays in place · nusxalashmove (cut and paste): taking the object from one place to another · ko‘chirish
Explanation
The window once called “My Computer” is called “This PC” in Windows 10 and 11. It shows the computer’s drives, removable devices and main folders (Documents, Pictures, Downloads). The window elements are: the title bar, the ribbon (Windows 10) or command bar (Windows 11) with action buttons, the address bar, search on the right, the navigation pane on the left (quick access, drives), the file and folder area in the middle and the status bar at the bottom. Main actions: new folder – right-click in an empty place → New → Folder (or Ctrl+Shift+N); rename – F2; delete – Delete (goes to the Recycle Bin; Shift+Delete removes it for good, so be careful); copy – Ctrl+C, paste – Ctrl+V; move – Ctrl+X, then Ctrl+V. When copying, the original stays; when moving, it goes to the new place. Alt+Enter opens an object’s properties (name, size, date); under “This PC” → Properties (or Settings → System → About) you can see the processor, RAM and Windows version.
Worked examples
Moving: select “Hisobot.docx”, press Ctrl+X, open D:\Maktab and press Ctrl+V. The file is now only in the new place; with copying (Ctrl+C) it would be in both.
Three copies of one file: after Ctrl+C, pressing Ctrl+V three times creates three new files with names like “Fayl - Copy”, “Fayl - Copy (2)”, because a name cannot repeat in a folder.
Class activity
“Folder masters”: groups create the folder “Maktab” on drive D:, with “8-sinf” and “Rasmlar” inside, then copy, move and rename a file and show the result to the teacher.
Practice
1
Name two ways to create a new folder.
Right-click → New → Folder; or Ctrl+Shift+N.
2
What is the difference between copying and moving? Write the keys.
In copying the original stays (Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V); in moving the original goes to the new place (Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V).
3
What is the difference between Delete and Shift+Delete?
Delete sends a file to the Recycle Bin; Shift+Delete removes it permanently.
4
Why can't a folder hold two files with the same name?
The OS tells files apart by name; with a repeated name it could not know which file is meant.
