Practical lesson
In the practical lesson we work with what we have learned. The first task is to calculate population change: natural increase is found by subtracting the number of deaths from births, mechanical change by subtracting those who left from those who arrived; the total change is their sum. The second task is to show the structure of heavy industry in a diagram: fuel and energy, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, machine building, chemicals and building materials. The third task is to explain the difference between specialization, cooperation and combining with concrete examples. The fourth task is to analyse siting factors (raw material, fuel, energy, water, labour, transport, consumers, ecology): for each enterprise choose the two most important factors and write why. The fifth task is to convert numbers in a table to percentages and draw a pie chart: use the formula part / total x 100 percent, and the circle equals 360 degrees. The sixth task is to mark on a blank map the symbols for railway, thermal power plant, transmission line and gas pipeline. Write the result neatly in the notebook with comments and check yourself.
“Practice stations”: the class is split into 6 stations, each group does one task and then stations rotate.
