Explanation

In Tashkent region, in many branches the stages from raw material to finished product are carried out within the region itself. The main branches are power generation, ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, machine building, chemicals, building materials, and light and food industries. By position and production links, three industrial districts have formed: Tashkent–Chirchiq, Tashkent–Yangiyul and Angren–Almalyk. In the Angren–Almalyk district the Almalyk mining and metallurgical combine yields copper and by-product metals such as gold, silver and molybdenum, while Angren mines coal and runs thermal power stations. Chirchiq has plants for heat-resistant alloys, chemicals and machine building, and in Bekabad a metallurgical plant processes scrap iron. Building materials: cement at Bekabad, Angren and Ohangaron, glass and marble at Gazalkent; rapid industrial growth has raised the risk of air and water pollution. Because of the nearby capital market, agriculture leads in vegetables, fruit, milk and meat, with thousands of hectares of greenhouses and poultry and fish farms near the city. The centre of the region is the city of Nurafshon, which has been taking shape as a new city in recent years.

Worked examples
The Almalyk combine concentrates copper ore and produces copper; gold and silver in the ore are also separated. It is an example of getting several products from one raw material.
Yangiyul has many cotton-ginning, oil, dairy and canning enterprises: it is an industrial node specialized in light and food industries.
