Practical: Making a mosaic of Uzbekistan’s regions and neighbouring countries
Uzbekistan is divided into 14 administrative units: the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the regions of Andijan, Bukhara, Fergana, Jizzakh, Khorezm, Namangan, Navoi, Kashkadarya, Samarkand, Syrdarya, Surkhandarya and Tashkent, and Tashkent city. By area the largest unit is Karakalpakstan, followed by Navoi region. Regions are further divided into districts, cities and villages. The mosaic method – colouring each unit separately – helps you remember each shape and its neighbours. It is important to keep the map’s outlines accurate: they help you place the cut-out pieces correctly. After the mosaic we find which regions lie on the border (for example Surkhandarya with Afghanistan).
Practical: build the mosaic and write the neighbouring countries around it. Then answer: which are the southernmost and easternmost regions? Safety: use scissors only with the teacher’s permission, points down; keep glue out of the mouth; do not drop cuttings on the floor (slipping risk).
