Respiration and transpiration
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Make a table: photosynthesis and respiration — when, where, what is needed, what results, energy.
Photosynthesis: in light, in chloroplasts, CO₂+water→sugar+O₂, energy stored. Respiration: always, in all cells, sugar+O₂→CO₂+water, energy released.
2
Do the transpiration experiment at home with a leafy shoot and record the water-level change in 24 hours.
The water level drops; the result depends on shoot size and temperature.
3
If one maize plant transpires about 200 L in summer, how many litres do 15 plants transpire?
3000
4
Saksovul, wormwood, cactus: what water-saving adaptation does each have?
Saksovul — scale leaves; wormwood — finely divided hairy leaves, sheds leaves in summer; cactus — leaves turned to spines, stores water in the stem.
5
Why should houseplant leaves be wiped with a damp cloth from time to time?
Dust blocks the stomata and light; wiping improves gas exchange, transpiration and photosynthesis.
