Explanation

Abdulla Qahhor was born on 17 September 1907 in the village of Asht near Kokand in a blacksmith’s family. In 1922–1924 he studied at a teacher-training school and in 1926–1930 at Central Asian State University. In the magazine “Mushtum” he published humorous pieces under the pen names “Norin shilpiq” and “Sarimsoq”. His works include “Qishloq hukm ostida” (1932), the novel “Sarob” (written 1934, published 1937), “Qo‘shchinor chiroqlari” (1951), and the plays “Shohi so‘zana”, “Og‘riq tishlar” (1954), “Tobutdan tovush” and “Ayajonlarim”. He died on 25 May 1968 and was buried in the Chig‘atoy cemetery. A house museum of his exists, and he received the title People’s Writer of Uzbekistan. Qahhor is regarded as a master of Uzbek story writing for his brief, precise and moving stories.
