Tog‘ay Murod: life and work
Tog‘ay Murod was born in 1948 in the village of Xo‘jasoat in the Denov district of the Surxondaryo region. After village school he studied journalism at Tashkent University in 1966–1972 and the Institute of World Literature in Moscow in 1985–1987. He worked at the republic radio, the newspaper “O‘zbekiston fizkulturachisi” and the magazine “Fan va turmush”. He belonged to the generation of young prose writers who entered literature in the 1970s (Murod Muhammad Do‘st, Erkin A’zamov, Xayriddin Sultonov and others) and depicted the lives of ordinary people. His works: “Yulduzlar mangu yonadi” (1976), “Ot kishnagan oqshom” (1979), “Oydinda yurgan odamlar” and the novel “Otamdan qolgan dalalar” (1993). For the novel he received the Abdulla Qodiriy State Prize and the title People’s Writer; he also translated Seton-Thompson’s “Yovvoyi yo‘rg‘a” into Uzbek. The writer died at 55 in 2003.
