Using minerals wisely

Textbook: Part 2, pp. 70–73
GoalKnow how to use minerals wisely: saving, recycling and moving to renewable energy.
New words
thrift (saving) · tejamkorlikrecycling · qayta ishlashwaste · chiqindisolar panel · quyosh paneli
Explanation

Minerals are limited, so they must be used wisely. First, saving: switch off unneeded lights and do not waste water and gas. Second, recycling: old metal, glass and paper can be collected, melted or pulped and made into new things. This cuts the raw material that must be dug up and does not pollute nature. Third, mend and reuse a thing instead of throwing it away. Fourth, use renewable energy: solar panels take electricity from sunlight and wind turbines from wind. Uzbekistan has many sunny days, so solar energy is a big opportunity. Sorting waste into separate bins by type is a simple but useful habit.

Worked examples
An empty glass jar — to recycling; an old shirt — mend it or pass it on.
Class activity

Count for a week how many glass, paper and plastic containers your family throws out and discuss which could be reused. Take care with broken glass and let an adult help.
