Soil and its make-up; minerals
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Take a soil sample from a garden, look at it by eye and with a magnifier (with an adult) and write what you find.
Sand grains, humus, tiny roots and bits of stone may be there.
2
Write the three groups of minerals with examples.
Fuel: coal; ore: iron; non-ore: sand.
3
Draw a quarry and a shaft and write the difference.
A quarry is open; a shaft is underground.
4
Find one plant at home grown in soil and ask what soil it likes.
The answer depends on the plant; many like humus-rich soil.
