My role model: writing a biography and a check-up
A biography tells the story of a life. For a short biography answer four questions: who is the person, when and where did the person live, what did the person do, and why is the person important? Use the past simple: was born, studied, worked, invented, helped, became. Put events in time order and use time words: as a child, later, in the end. Choose a role model who is a family member, a teacher or an invented inventor. Do not write private details. For about 60 to 80 words (up to 100 if you can) use 5 or 6 sentences. Start with who the person is, then tell the main events and finish with why the person inspires you.
| Part | Question | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Who | Who is the person? | Mrs Soheir is a science teacher. |
| When and where | Where and when did she live? | She was born in a village. As a child she loved plants. |
| What | What did she do? | She studied science and built a greenhouse. |
| Why | Why is she important? | She helps students love science. |
Mrs Soheir is a science teacher and my role model. She was born in a village near Minya and loved plants as a child. She studied science at university and became a teacher. In her school she built a greenhouse with her students, and they grew vegetables for the school kitchen. The school honored her at the end of the year. She is smart and kind, and she inspires me because she never says that a question is silly.
Role model interview. Interview a grown-up you admire. Ask where they grew up, what they studied or worked at, what they did to help others and what they learned. Write a biography of 60 to 80 words (up to 100 if you can) with the past simple.
