Four amazing places: a tour guide and talking about countries
Read the tour-company text on page 77 of your book (four places in the world). We do not repeat its facts, and we use our own made-up tour. A good guide says where the place is, what visitors can see and do, and why it is special. Use descriptive adjectives and the superlative: one of the most beautiful trails. Some place words: a trail is a path in nature; a lagoon is a calm shallow area of water near the sea; a glacier is a huge slow river of ice; charm is a pleasant quality that makes people like a place; a destination is a place you travel to; a memory is something you remember. To talk about a country use a chart with four parts: food, traditions, landmarks and facts. Say what is true and use opinion words only when you give your own view.
| Chart part | Question | Example (Egypt) |
|---|---|---|
| Food | What do people eat? | ful and ta’ameya are popular breakfast dishes. |
| Traditions | What do people do? | Families often share a big meal on Fridays. |
| Landmarks | What can you see? | The Nile flows through the country. |
| Facts | What is true? | Cairo is the capital. Egypt is in Africa. |
Welcome to Marsa Hadi, one of the most charming towns on the coast. Our walk begins on a short trail above the sea. You can see a quiet lagoon where children swim in summer. Look at the boats: they are old, but they are still working. After the walk, you can buy a small souvenir in the market. I hope you will take home beautiful memories.
Country chart. Choose a place you know (a city in Egypt or a country you have read about). Fill a chart with food, traditions, landmarks and facts, using only things you are sure of. Then tell a grown-up about the place in four sentences.
