Make paper slides and present

ICT P6 Term 2, Theme 4: pp. 62–65
GoalMake half-sheet paper slides from a flowchart, present them and reflect on the experience.
New words
half-sheet · a sheet of paper cut or folded in tworeflect · to think back about what happened and what you learnedproud · feeling good about something you did wellimprove · to make something better
Explanation

Time to make the talk. For each box of your flowchart, take half a sheet of paper. Each half-sheet is a paper slide: a short title, a few words, and a picture or a drawing. Keep the letters large. Put the slides in the order of the arrows. Then present to a partner, using the speaking tips: say the purpose, speak clearly and slowly, point to each part, and do not read every word. Your partner gives one thing they liked and one suggestion. After presenting, reflect on four questions. How did the flowchart help you? What feedback did you get? What made you proud? What do you need to work on? Think too about the future: when might you use a flowchart in another project? A flowchart is useful whenever a job has steps in an order, like building a web page or planning a trip.

Worked examples

box 2: word processortitle, 3 short points, a drawing
From box to slide. Box 2 of Jana’s flowchart says ‘the word processor’. Her half-sheet slide has the title ‘Word processor’, three short points and a drawing of a page with a heading.

Four reflection questions. Youssef answers: it helped me because I did not forget a part; my partner said to speak slower; I am proud that I did not read every word; I will practise pointing next time.
build a web pageplan a tripsteps in order
Future use. A flowchart for building a web page (Week 21) and one for planning a trip to a museum both have steps in order. That is when a flowchart is most useful.
Class activity

Present and reflect. Make one half-sheet paper slide for every box of your flowchart. Present them to a partner in about two minutes, pointing to each slide in turn. Collect one thing your partner liked and one suggestion. Then write your answers to the four reflection questions and one sentence about a future project where you might use a flowchart.

Practice
1
How many half-sheet slides do you make for a flowchart with 5 boxes?
2
Name the four reflection questions.
3
Give an example of a future project where a flowchart helps.
4
Why should you not read every word of your slide aloud?
