Paper slides for my Junior Explorer
ICT P5 Term 2, Theme 4: pp. 70–73
GoalMake paper slides for the group’s Junior Explorer following a storyboard and the 10-20-30 rule.
New words
scene description · a short note that says what happens on a slidepaper slide · a slide drawn on paper when there is no computereffect · a special sound or movement added to a slidereflect · to think back about how work went
Explanation
Now your group can present its Junior Explorer from Week 25. Work in the same group and bring your notes. Plan with a storyboard: for each slide write the scene description, the picture, the words, and any sound or movement you want. Count your slides: no more than ten, and fewer for a short talk. Make the letters large. If you have a computer, build the slides there. If not, draw each slide on a sheet of paper and show them one after another, like a flip book. Practise the talk with a watch. At the end, think back: how did the storyboard help? How did the rule help? How did working as a group make the presentation better?
Storyboard boxes→Count slides and check letter size→Make paper slides→Practise and reflect
Worked examples
Malak’s group writes on the storyboard: ‘Slide 2 – Tarek notices a dripping tap. Picture: Tarek and a tap. Words: A tap can waste 20 glasses a day. Sound: drip, drip.’ Every box has a scene, a picture, words and a sound.
The group counts: 8 slides, planned time 6 minutes. 8 is fewer than 10 and 6 is under 20, so the rule is followed. They write the words in large letters.
After the talk, Youssef says: ‘The storyboard saved us time. The rule made us cut two slides. Working together gave us better ideas than working alone.’ This is reflecting.
Class activity
Paper slides. In your group take your Junior Explorer from Week 25. 1. Draw a storyboard with at most 6 boxes. 2. Divide the slides among the members by their strengths. 3. Each member draws a paper slide with large letters and one picture. 4. Put the slides in order and practise the 5-minute talk, with each member speaking about one or two slides. 5. After the talk, write three sentences: what the storyboard gave you, what the rule gave you, and what you are proud of.
Practice
1
What goes in a scene description?
A short note on what happens on the slide.
2
What can a group do if there is no computer to make slides?
Draw each slide on paper and show them in order.
3
A group has 7 slides and plans 14 minutes. Does it follow the 10-20-30 rule? How long per slide?
Yes (7 is under 10, 14 is under 20). 14 ÷ 7 = 2 minutes per slide.
4
Name one thing a group can reflect on after a presentation.
For example: how the storyboard helped, or how teamwork helped.
