Explanation
Theme 2 was about staying safe and finding true information. The summary: keep personal information private and back up important files. Use long, unique passwords, and two proofs where possible. Learn the signs of phishing and fake websites: a prize, a hurry, a request for details, a look-alike address. If you meet one, stay calm, close it and tell a trusted adult. Copyright protects creators, so ask permission and give credit. Choose reliable sources and tell fact from opinion. Use key words, AND, OR, NOT and quotation marks. Write notes in your own words, paraphrase or quote with a name, and end with a list of sources in alphabetical order. The flowchart below helps you decide how to write each point.
Worked examples
Puzzle 4. A message says: ‘You won a bicycle! Answer in one hour with your full name and address.’ Signs: surprise prize, hurry, request for private details. Right action: do not answer, show a grown-up.
Puzzle 5. Sort: ‘The Nile flows through Egypt’ (fact) and ‘The Nile is the prettiest river’ (opinion). A fact can be proved, an opinion can be argued. Reliable sources agree on facts.
Puzzle 6. Which list of sources is in the right order? Aly, Hassan, Nabil (yes). Nabil, Aly, Hassan (no). A list of sources goes from A to Z by the author’s name.
Class activity
Flowchart journey. Follow the flowchart with three sentences of your own from a school book: for each, decide if you need exact words (quote + name) or an idea (paraphrase), then credit the source. Write the three results. Then create your own safety flowchart: ‘I get a strange message → do I know the sender?’ and show the two paths.
