What to do and who to tell
ICT P5 Term 1, Theme 2: pp. 58–61
GoalKnow what to do if I meet a fake site and who adults can report it to.
New words
report · to tell the right people about a problemtrusted adult · a grown-up you know and can talk to, like a parent or teachercalm · not worried or afraidadvice · words that help someone decide what to do
Explanation
What should you do if you meet a fake site? Stay calm. Close the page. Tell a trusted adult. You are not in trouble, and you do not need to feel ashamed: scams are made to fool even grown-ups. Do not type anything, and do not call any number on the page. Then the adult can act. A grown-up can report the page to the internet provider, to the shop and the bank if money was involved, and to the national office that deals with internet crime. We do not need phone numbers here: your teacher will tell the adults who to contact. Telling quickly helps others, too, because the page can be stopped.
Stay calm→Close the page→Tell a trusted adult→The adult reports it
Worked examples
Mina sees a pretend prize page and clicks by mistake. He feels worried. He remembers the steps, closes the page, and tells his mother. She says, ‘Thank you for telling me.’
Nour’s uncle ordered shoes from a page, but they never came. He tells the shop and his bank. They help him, and he warns the family: ‘Check before you pay.’
Jana writes advice for her grandmother on a card: ‘If a page says you won something, close it and call me.’ A short, kind card is easy to follow.
Class activity
My plan and advice. Write your own plan on a card: three steps for what you do if a page asks for private details. Then write a short advice card for a relative (an aunt, a grandfather) in kind words. Do not tell any real story about yourself; invent a pretend one if you like, such as ‘a cousin who got a prize message’.
