New words
о́чень прия́тно (óchenʹ priyátno) · nice to meet youкак дела́ (kak delá) · how are you (how are things)хорошо́ (khoroshó) · good, wellнорма́льно (normálʹno) · OKпло́хо (plókho) · badа у тебя́ (a u tebyá) · and you (friend)а у вас (a u vas) · and you (polite)
Explanation

When you meet someone new, say О́чень прия́тно!, “Very nice!”. To ask how someone is, say Как дела́?, which means “How are things?”. You can answer Хорошо́ (good), Норма́льно (OK) or Пло́хо (bad), and then give the question back: А у тебя́? to a friend or А у вас? to a stranger. A short polite talk has these steps: greet, give your name, say that you are glad to meet, and ask how things are. The words are the same for men and women.
