Explanation

Learn two phrases as they are: Я хочу́ (I want) and Я люблю́ (I like, I love). A thing follows: Я хочу́ чай. Я люблю́ суп. After them, feminine words change -а to -у and -я to -ю: ры́ба → ры́бу, вода́ → во́ду (the stress moves), гру́ша → гру́шу, ма́ма → ма́му. Masculine and neuter things stay the same: Я хочу́ чай, Я люблю́ мя́со. Я хочу́ пить means “I am thirsty”, and Я хочу́ есть means “I am hungry”: here есть means “to eat”, not “there is”. Say no with не: Я не люблю́ ры́бу. Вку́сно! means “It is tasty!”.
