Months and dates
Months start with a small letter. They are all in the table below. To say “in” a month use в and the ending -е: в ма́рте, в а́вгусте, в ию́не. Months in -рь, and февра́ль, move the stress to the end: в январе́, в феврале́, в сентябре́. For a date ask Како́е сего́дня число́? Answer with the day word and the month with the ending -а or -я: Сего́дня пя́тое ма́рта (the 5th of March). Day words: пе́рвое (1st), второ́е (2nd), тре́тье (3rd), пя́тое (5th), деся́тое (10th). After 20 say два́дцать пя́тое. A birthday is день рожде́ния: Мой день рожде́ния в ма́е.

Write your birthday and the birthdays of three people you know. For each, say the month with в (Мой день рожде́ния в …). Make a small Russian calendar: twelve pages, with the month name on each page. Every morning say the date aloud.
