We need light to see

Workbook 2: Topic 5.2, pp. 62–64
GoalSay that we need light to see, and that the less light there is, the harder it is to see.
New words
dark · a place with no light, or only a very littlebright · full of lightsee · to know what is there using your eyes and light
Explanation

We need light to see. Light comes from a light source, such as the Sun or a lamp. It bounces off the things around us and goes into our eyes. Then we can see them. If there is no light at all, we cannot see anything. If there is just a little light, it is hard to see, and everything looks grey and dim. When there is lots of light, we can see well. A dark place is not empty. The things are still there. We just cannot see them without light.

When she opens the curtains in the morning, the Sun fills the room with light. Now she sees her toys well.
Class activity

Peep and see (with an adult): put a toy in a cupboard and close the door. Can you see the toy? Open the door just a crack and look again. Then open it wide. For each step, draw a face: a sad face for “I cannot see it”, a straight face for “I can only just see it” and a happy face for “I can see it clearly”. Never go into a dark place on your own.
