Light sources
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Draw three light sources and three things that are not light sources.
Light sources: for example Sun, lamp, torch, candle, screen. Not light sources: for example Moon, mirror, book, chair, cloud.
2
After dark, ask a grown-up to help you look out of the window. How many light sources can you spot?
For example: street lights, lit windows, car headlights, stars. The Moon is not a light source; if the child lists it, gently talk about reflected light.
3
Tell a grown-up why the Moon is not a light source.
The Moon does not make its own light. It reflects light from the Sun.
4
Remember: never look straight at the Sun. Tell someone at home why this is a rule.
Looking straight at the Sun can hurt and damage the eyes.
