Explanation

Every object is made of a material. Some materials are natural, which means they come from nature. People did not have to make them. Wood comes from trees. Wool comes from sheep. Rock, sand and clay come from the ground. Water is a natural material too. People collect natural materials and use them to make things.

cotton cloth

Class activity

Nature hunt (with an adult): go outside and look for natural materials on the ground, such as a stone, a twig, a dead leaf or a feather. Do not pick living flowers. Lay what you find on a tray and name each material. Wash your hands afterwards.
