Look after your teeth
Workbook 2: Topic 4.5, pp. 57–58
GoalSay how to keep teeth clean and strong.
New words
dentist · a doctor who looks after our teethtoothpaste · a paste we put on a toothbrush to clean our teethsugar · a sweet food that can harm our teeth if we eat a lot of it
Explanation
We only get one set of grown-up teeth, so we must look after them. Brush your teeth twice a day, in the morning and before bed. Use a toothbrush and toothpaste with fluoride, which helps to make teeth strong. Sugar can make holes in teeth, so eat only a little of sweet food and sugary drinks. Food and drinks with calcium, such as milk and cheese, help to make teeth strong. Also visit the dentist to have your teeth checked. The dentist can help you keep your smile healthy.
Worked examples
Yuki brushes her teeth after breakfast and before bed. Her teeth are clean and strong.
Daniyar has a cold drink with lots of sugar every day. Over time the sugar can harm his teeth. Water and milk are better.
Once or twice a year Amir goes to the dentist. The dentist looks at his teeth and tells him how to keep them healthy.
Class activity
Teeth chart (with an adult): make a table with a row for each day of the week and two columns, morning and bedtime. Every time you brush your teeth, draw a smiley face. At the end of the week, count your smiley faces. How many did you get? Can you get them all next week?
