Liquids, diffusion and solids
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Find three examples of diffusion at home and say in which state (gas, liquid, solid) each happens.
For example: smell of baking bread – gas; sugar in tea – liquid; a stain slowly soaking into cloth or chalk on a board – solid surface.
2
Put sugar in two identical glasses of water, one cold and one warm (not boiling). In which does it dissolve faster? Write why.
Faster in warm water, because particles move faster and diffusion speeds up.
3
You have milk, a stone and air. Write one sentence on the shape and volume of each.
Milk – fixed volume, shape depends on the container; stone – fixed shape and volume; air – neither shape nor volume is fixed.
4
Look at a building site near your home and write three solid materials being used.
For example: brick, cement, iron reinforcing bars, wood, glass.
