Stick 5 different dried leaves in a notebook and write whether each is simple or compound and its venation type.
E.g. mulberry — simple, net; wheat — simple, parallel; alfalfa — compound, trifoliate.

Draw general diagrams of a simple and a compound leaf.
Simple: petiole + blade; compound: common stalk + leaflets on small stalks.

Look at a wheat leaf with a magnifier and write its venation and whether it has a petiole; which group of plants has this feature?
Sessile with parallel veins; typical of monocots.

Watermelon, pea, tulip, cotton, pumpkin, alfalfa: how many have simple leaves? Count and write.

Look at one nearby tree’s leaf with a magnifier and write what its margin is like.
