Textbook: Part 3, lesson 80, pp. 28–30
GoalMixed numbers: writing an improper fraction as a whole part plus a proper fraction.
New words
mixed number · aralash kasrwhole part · butun qismfraction part · kasr qismslice of pizza · pitsa bo‘lagi
Explanation

An improper fraction can be written in another way: find how many whole units can be made and how many shares are left. This is a mixed number. For example 11/4 = 2 3/4 (two and three fourths): 4/4 + 4/4 = 2 wholes and 3/4 is left. In a mixed number the whole part is written before the fraction.

Worked examples
11 slices, 4 slices to a pizza: 2 whole pizzas and 3 slices, that is 2 3/4.
7 half-apples (7/2): 3 whole apples and one more half, that is 3 1/2.
Class activity

“Pizza party”: paper pizza circles with 4 or 8 slices are made. Children count slices and write how many whole pizzas and extra slices they have as a mixed number.
